Damien Hirst & Gordon Burn—On the Way to Work
A series of interviews between the artist Damien Hirst and the author Gordon Burn between 1992 and 2000, inspired by their admiration for the Sylvester/Bacon interviews. With photos from the artist’s own archives, as well as friends and family, a large part of the book was collaged and artwork created using a desktop scanner, producing a personal visual diary as alive as the conversation it contained. The cover type was hand drawn directly on the image during a meeting to discuss possible cover images, in the spirit of the quoted Alan Ginsberg, ‘first thought, best thought’.
